TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
SCIENCES LABORATORY
The Geographic Information Sciences (GISc)
Laboratory was established during summer 2000.
Since then, the Director has supervised several undergraduate students
in
geographic information systems (GIS) service learning-based research
to
address anthropocentric problems and natural hazards associated
with urban environments.
Funding has primarily come from NASA and the USDA through the
TSU Center of Excellence in Information
Systems and Engineering Management.
Additional funds have come from the U.S. Department of Energy through
the
TSU
Massie Chair
of Excellence in Environmental Science.
Hardware:
At present the GISc Lab has two Dell Pentium III, one Howard Pentium
III,
and one Howard Pentium IV class workstations attached to a
HP DesignJetColorPro CAD Plotter. Global Positioning Systems
(GPS) capabilities are supported by two
Trimble GeoExplorer3 units, a Trimble GeoXT with GPS Pathfinder
Office and ArcPad software, three Garmin GPS 72 receivers, and a
Garmin
Etrex Personal Navigator. Peripherals include CalComp SummaSketch
III digitizing tablets and a
HP ScanJet 4300C desktop scanner.
Software:
The GISc Lab holds licenses for ArcGIS 9.0, ArcGIS 8.3aArcView 3.2a, LandView
6, ArcPad,
MapInfo Professional, IDRISI32, Maptitudes, Atlas GIS, MultiSpec
32, GeoDa, and WinQSB 1.0.
